[MT1-05. Monks (Nevada Nirvana Mix)]

Such an amazing goddamn remix of Monks. The beginning was a bit off-putting but I gave it a chance and oh my GOD it's perfect. Feels way more like something you'd hear in an actual Madness Animation now

I can explain the intro. I didn't want to start it off with the instantly recognizable formant synth riff right away. I wanted a bit of a psychedelic "nirvana" vibe for the intro, like a monk meditating or something. So I got the idea to basically time stretch just one note from the sample of that riff, and pitch shift it to follow the B to C chord progression. But I also wanted to layer that with a real voice. One time when I was working on the track I had a visit from an old friend I've worked with before, a reggae singer. He has a quite deep voice, so I basically had him record a take of just that same B note too, fine-tuned and pitch-shifted it the same way and that's the "wiiiiiii" you hear in the beginning. The whole point of it really, is for it to start off differently than the original, but still build up into the main guts of this remix while highlighting the especially recognizable parts of the original.
